O vaqueiro de verdade
Não teme a morte e a fome
Não foge de emboscada
E não treme diante de homem

O vaqueiro de verdade
Não larga o seu laço da mão
Ele não se embaranha em espinho
A mulher ele não nega carinho
Ao bom Deus ele não nega oração

Ô ponha lá vaqueiro
Pega o jaleco de couro

Ponha lá vaqueiro

Ô na porteira do curral

Ponha lá vaqueiro

Ô ponha o jaleco de couro
Na porteira do curral

Ponha lá vaqueiro
The real cowboy
Does not fear death and hunger
Doesn’t run away from ambushes
And doesn’t tremble before man

The real cowboy
Don’t let go of his lasso
He does not tangle himself in thorns
To the woman he does not deny affection
To the good God he does not deny prayer

Hey put it there cowboy
Get the leather coat

Put it there cowboy

Oh on the corral gate

Put it there cowboy

Oh put the leather coat
On the corral gate

Put it there cowboy

Note: I’ve seen both versions that sai ‘ponha lá vaqueiro’ as well as ‘panha lá vaqueiro’. ‘Ponha’, as above, would translate to put/place. ‘Panha’, on the other hand, would be an abbreviation of ‘apanha’, in this case meaning ‘to fetch’, so in the lyrics it would be ‘fetch your leather coat from the corral gate’.
